Making your Bed

You know all the excuses, in fact you probably have used them before: “It’s just going to get unmade tonight”, “I don’t have time”, or “My mom isn’t here to make me do it”. Excuses are much easier than actually doing it. When it really comes down to it, it is super easy to make your bed every morning. There are some very surprising benefits to why we should do it.

There was a talk that most people have heard from Naval Admiral William McRaven. In a commencement speech at University of Texas he said “If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day”. This one small act should make you feel like you have already completed one thing and it will set the tone for the rest of the day. By doing this one thing, it will help you want to keep the rest of you room clean. Which will lead to you being more satisfied.

When you feel more satisfied you will have lower stressed and an increase in productivity. There are many times in my life when I lower my stress by cleaning, because I feel more productive. Along with these feelings, your room just looks better and feels better. You don’t wanna to walk back to your room having it look like a disaster. These small steps can make you have an overall better outlook on life.

So take those extra couple minutes in the morning to make your bed. It might greatly improve your life.
