My Job

My job as a gymnastics coach is great. I love working with kids and helping them achieve their goals. Although it can be stressful at times, I wouldn’t trade my job for any other. Occasionally I will have days where I don’t want to be working and I won’t be in the best mood. But, when I see the smiling faces of the kids and the excitement in their eyes, I instantly find myself smiling as well.

I’ve had my ups and downs as a coach but I find that whatever happens makes me a stronger coach and helps teach me what should and should not be done. I feel that not only am I teaching these children gymnastics, I am also teaching them responsibility, how to get along with others/teammates, perseverance, teamwork, discipline, dedication, work ethic, etc. Not only am I teaching them, I also find myself learning. These kids teach me because I get to work with so many different kids of all ages and skill level and you soon seem to find that not all kids learn the same way. I’ve been taught that I have to sometimes think as if I were them when trying to explain a skill and forget everything I already know in order to help them learn efficiently. Although this sometimes can be hard to do, the excitement I get when they learn a new skill is beyond words. I sometimes feel as if I get more excited then them because it shows me that not only has their hard work payed off, but so has mine.

At the end of the day, whether I had a rough night at work or great one, I still love my job. The saying “a coach will impact more young people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime”~Billy Graham, is a saying I live by because it’s true that you never know how big of an influence you really are and you can never be quite sure how many people you are inspiring.
