Along the Beam

Inspired by “Meditation in a Toolshed” by C.S. Lewis

What if your life is rushing, moving along the way it was meant to be but you’ve only stood still in the stream, never flowing, not looking along the beam?

The strain and flow of your life’s light is even now past you as you look behind. From your then and now through, the bright light that guides you has blinded your sight. You’ve looked straight at it — burned white in the eye by the luminescence that was meant to but guide. To look along the beam and see all of full heaven is your great fight.

Why you are here is the why that you fear and yet there it is, the long stream of light, marking up the page of your life.

You’ve read and you’ve craned, neck down low to keep reading the rough untouched page. Tonight you may lift and behold dotted white sky: the rivers of milk and honey, galaxies showing their might.

You are more like them than the things that are past. The stars tell the glory of what will last and then last. It’s you and it’s me; our age will not end. Still He’ll keep writing, keep stories alive. No last page will come, no spirit undo. Look along the beam traveler and see circled mercy anew.
