The concept for iPAR was incubated within a multi-family office nearly eight years ago as its partners advised and managed more than $1 billion on behalf of nine families seeking direct impact from their investment portfolios. Expert at sourcing impact investments and at building impact portfolios, this investment advisor faced a unique challenge in managing impact — not because they couldn’t manage impact, but because the information available to them from asset managers and fund managers, or from direct investment enterprises, made impact management challenging.

Quite simply, the impact reporting to investors . . . well, . . . let’s just say it left a lot to be desired.

In particular, at one point the investment advisor collected the impact reports that arrived somewhat periodically (in the form of glossy brochures and pdfs) and, by stitching them together, collected 287 pages of mostly stories about impact.

And while data without stories are soul-less, stories without data are useless!

[Cue the crickets chirping!]

Nothing!

In 2011, no such tools existed.

In 2017, iPAR worked to make the platform “production ready” for the alpha-return part of the impact investment sector. We on-boarded 50 fund managers, a dozen investor portfolios and The CAPROCK Group in a private beta.

With more than 1,000 quarters of impact data flowing through the platform, in 2018, we began sharing the fully-built platform with numerous fund managers, and began building a robust set of tools for investment advisors, including business intelligence tools for client presentations that an advisor can customize based upon each client’s unique focus on theory of change, asset class, geography, or impact metrics.

And in 2019, we launched a public beta of our platform.

But for now, we thought we should start at the beginning, with a shout-out to The CAPROCK Group, our faithful investors, and (most importantly) our first customers!
