A blur of smiles

This was taken in the late seventies — I was born in 1971, my sister three years later. I was maybe six, she, three. It wasn’t printed until 2004, according to the back of the print. It’s a bit fuzzy, mostly because we rarely stood still back then.

If I were a child now, I’d want to be told someone knows what they are doing. Truth is, no one does. I have children of my own, who resemble the smiling girls in the snapshot above, children who will one day become adults, adults who will remember the time when we paused, and we lost everything that we thought was important.
