Date Ideas and Locations

The long and short answer is that there is no one size fits all. Not only do different people enjoy going to different places and have different thresholds for certain things (obviously), the overall vibe and availability of things in your town or city will vary.

This works for guys and girls alike, because no one likes taking someone on or being taken on a shitty date. So here you go, some of my favorites:

The Bar Date:

There is always the tried and true bar date. Generally I like to ask if the girl I’m taking out is into cocktails, beer or wine and tailor my approach appropriately. The fact of the matter, very few places do all three well. And the ones who do, are usually a little too bougie for a first or second date. You want to keep the atmosphere casual (don’t try to impress), but don’t take her to a dive either. If they specialize in a certain cocktail or specialty drink, that will make it slightly more colorful and fun than your average bar.

Go someplace cozy, that specializes in cocktails or wine, and you can’t go wrong. Extra points if it has a certain theme and an interesting atmosphere. You want to keep the conversation going, and making observations about the environment around you is a great way to make that easier.

The Active Date:

Running. Biking. Skating. Surfing. Or just going for a walk around a park or neighborhood. The active date has some major advantages. You both get endorphins flowing, which naturally make you feel good, and thus feel good about who you’re with. It’s also a great way to show off an active hobby you have, or how in shape you are (if you are).

The only thing that can be a detractor to the active date, is that in certain situations you won’t have as much opportunity to chat and flirt, which is the quickest way to build a connection with your date. She also may feel self-conscious about getting too sweaty or dirty around you early on, so you can bet sex will be out. Not to say it can’t happen, it’s worked for me, it just takes a certain finesse. Give it a try.

Museum/Show/Observational Date:

The “museum date”. This umbrella includes museums, science academies, exploratoriums, etc… These dates are great because, as I referenced above, keeping the conversation going on a date can sometimes be difficult in a vacuum. Observation fostering environments are great to work through those awkward silences that can sometimes arise. Don’t have any idea what to say? Point at a strange painting and make a comment or ask her what she thinks about it.

Of course every person, and every girl, has their own threshold for all of these date types. So you’ll have to do some feeling out of the situation and the girl yourself.
