More Than Dust

Around the familiar bend, awaiting the wings of hope

When the journey’s blurry,
Makes scarce sense,
It’s me who’s lacking,
Sieve wrong from right.

Can’t trace the beginning,
How to push forward?
Stuck and buried under,
No comfort on the horizon.

Fancied not knowing,
Meet riveting rest stops,
Sleep soundly today,
Awaken gently tomorrow.

A dry forehead,
Rhythmic beating of my heart,
Clear stream of courage,
Plan a glorious dismount.

Seems like a lifetime ago,
I knew what I was doing.
Five seconds or three years,
Have I moved an inch?

Leaf without a tree,
Yellow and browning edges,
Drifting through hazy terrain,
Yearning to settle down.

A cruel test or,
Loopy self-created problems,
Fix me, the car or —
The rough road itself.

Pull a Thelma and Louise,
Is it time to give up?
Can’t do that yet somehow,
Invisible hands pull me back.

Show yourself, I ask,
Why stop me now?
Real once, isolated forever,
Frozen and horizontal.

Sinking slowly in misery,
In wavy throws of pain,
Maybe tomorrow, or now,
An arrival of an end.

A waiting game,
Hitting walls and pits,
Exhausted from trying,
Widen my peripheral vision.

Walk maybe —
just a little farther along,
Can’t see much ahead,
Perhaps that’s not all bad.
