A Profile of Visa Systems Around the World

Landmark new report reviews visa systems in 22 different countries

Collaboration and international partnerships are the basis of great science. Bringing people together from diverse backgrounds, across borders, leads to new ways of thinking, better solutions and faster progress. This will become even more important as researchers work together to tackle the complex problems of our time. From climate change and epidemics to the growing burden of dementia, it is hard to see how any one individual, team or country could take on these challenges alone.

Immigration arrangements underpin this movement of researchers. Systems that encourage researchers to build international and interdisciplinary teams, and to work in different countries, are critical to solving global challenges. Compiled in July 2018, this analysis examines the immigration routes available to researchers, from PhD students to established academics, across 22 countries chosen to represent a variety of established and emerging research communities.
