Is it you?!!

I get a message on my phone which reads — ‘Hi, I am Pooja!’. I know a Pooja from my office but was sure that she cannot message me. Earlier in the day I had given my number ‘indirectly’ to Urvi, and was 99% sure, she was the one messaging me. I replied on the number anyways and talked a little bit before asking if I can call her. She says ‘we can talk for 3 minutes if you want’, and I call her immediately. On the call also, she says she is Pooja. I knew that she must be Urvi, but I continue with her play anyways! We continue talking on calls and messages for two more days and I was sure now that she is Urvi after all, but I wanted her to confess.

So Urvi and Pooja both are in the sales team, and I have been talking to both of them on company line for orders, returns and all other official work from last few months. There was one particular order that Urvi was helping me with from last few weeks. So, one night during our ‘personal call’, I ask ‘Pooja’ about that order, and without thinking through, she gives me the details. Bam! I say to her ‘Do you want to admit anything?’, and just then, she realized her mistake in her ‘perfect plan’, and says ‘Sorry! Yes, I am Urvi’. After several months she confesses that she was scared to talk to me and thus used a fake name, but that’s another story for another time!

It all started before few weeks because of that same order. I work at the company sales agency in Pune, and we had placed an order with the company head quarter. The order comes in defective, and now we want to replace that, so I call in the company office which is in Mumbai, Urvi answers the phone, I explain to her what was the problem with the order, and how we need replacements. We send back the products to company; few days passes there is still no replacement. I call company line again, Urvi says it will take 3 days to deliver replacements. I call back after 3 days, another promise of 3 more days. This happens few more times. I was very patient till now with the request, but finally one day, I try to show how much pressure is there on me from the clients for the products, and she replies with ‘You do not know how much pressure is there on me’.

I realized that each and every one has different kind of pressure in their lives, and I thought she might be in some real problem. Each next call to check on replacement status, I try to check on her as well; trying to find out what kind of problem she is facing, is it personal or professional. She never replies. I knew she wanted to say something, but was not able to say it, may be because she was in her office. Next day, I send email to her company address asking about the replacement status, and type in my personal mobile number in the email signature instead of the agency number that I usually write, hoping that she would notice and call me if she really wanted.

That evening, I reach home after work and was having my dinner, when my phone beeps with the text message from an unknown number — ‘Hi, I am Pooja!’.
